Tajikistan: Development of the National Water Supply and Sanitation Program. The last project phase is to be started!

Assignment Location: Tajikistan
Client: Municipal Infrastructure Development Project Management Unit (MIDPMU) – Dushanbe City
Origin of Funding: World Bank
The project started in October 2021 with a country-wide site survey and data collection in 64 districts and over 4,200 settlements, along with many discussions with the national agencies, followed by a baseline study. This study provides the basis for the formulation of an overall national water supply and sanitation program for Tajikistan until 2030.

On the 15th and 16th of November 2022, a workshop took place with Tajik stakeholders – the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, the Ministry of Finance, Tajik water and sanitation service providers – and International Financing Institutions (World Bank, EBRD, ADB, UNICEF, SECO), as well as other bilateral donors. The outline of the national water supply and sanitation and investment plan until 2030 was presented and vividly discussed.
In the following weeks, the formulation of the national water supply and sanitation program, the detailed elaboration of the investment plan, and the management information system were finalized. Until spring 2023, the final rounds of consultation on the formulated program with the Tajik sector stakeholders and the World Bank are envisaged for final approval, also on the political level.
