Rural water and sanitation project
The
assignment involved the preparation of a detailed grant application and financial
proposal for submission to the European Commission's ACP-EU Water Facility 9th
European Development Fund. The proposal was a successful bid resulting in a grant
of ca. 3 million EUR for the Red Cross. The project supports an integrated
action, where water supply, sanitation and health promotion are addressed simultaneously
in 120 villages in different parts of the country, with a specific focus on the
areas of Anseba and Southern Red Sea. In order to reduce livelihood risks in these
drought-prone areas, the development and implementation of strategies to protect
and conserve water and soil resources is an important part of this project. The
action is based upon the Red Cross Society of Eritrea as the implementing agency.
