Preparation
of ERA-NET Proposal: Inter-linkage of Research and Development Cooperation in
the Water Sector
The EUWI research working group presented a
paper at the 3rd World Water Forum in Kyoto and one major conclusion was that
a common strategy of EU member states in water research would be an important
contribution to the objectives of the EU Water Initiative. EU member states subsequently
proposed the outline of a “ERA-NET” project proposal submitted for funding under
the 6th EU Framework Programme for Research. The ERA-NET aims to establish communication,
collaboration and cooperation amongst different national and regional research
funds in the field of water-research with relevance for developing countries.
The objective (in the mid term) is to increase the efficiency and impact of water-research
in/for developing countries, to seek opportunities for synergy and avoid parallel
research efforts.
