Support to Kenya Water for Health Organisation
The major objective
of KWAHO project activities is to supplement Kenya Government efforts of improving
the standards of living of Kenyans by supporting rural communities with sustainable
water and sanitation facilities to improve health, sanitation and hygienic conditions.
Apart from physical interventions in the areas of Maseno (Lake Victoria basin)
and Garsen (Lower Tana river basin), community mobilisation and training will
remain key components in order to promote sustainability of the facilities. These
aim at community empowerment through provision of relevant skills, gender development,
hygiene education and promotion of sanitation and environmental management. The
long experience of cooperation enables the Austrian Development Cooperation to
deal directly with KWAHO and its staff. hydrophil’s
backstopping activities focus on supporting institutional integration, management
and regional planning, and applied research in the area of solar desalination
and rainwater harvesting technologies,. In addition, KWAHO has been supported
in the transition from the role of implementer to a facilitator involving the
setting up and training of local water supply and sanitation associations. <
