Red Cross Society Rural Water and Sanitation Programme - country assessment and preparation of ACP-EUWF proposal
The task of hydrophil was to prepare a winning proposal to be submitted to the ACP-EU Water Facility in close cooperation with the Danish Red Cross and the Uganda Red Cross Society. An integrated programme to address the water supply, sanitation and hygiene situation in cholera-prone, under-served areas of Western Uganda was proposed by combining hardware improvements with the PHAST approach.
The proposed programme aims at achieving a significant improvement of water supply and sanitation coverage as well as of the public health situation in an area along the Western border of Uganda (shores of Lake Albert). The area of intervention (about 480,000 inhabitants) consists of 14 mostly contiguous sub-counties of the five districts of Kasese, Kabarole, Bundibugyo, Hoima and Bulisa.
The proposal was successful and the project is under implementation.
