Pre - feasibility study on training and applied research for rural water supply & sanitation in the Sofala province
The experiences in Mozambique show that the human capacity deficit in the rural water and sanitation sector on all levels is at the origin of major difficulties in resource management, technical planning and implementation as well as utility management and weakens the sector development. However, there is no institutionalised training or capacity building in Mozambique.
hydrophil conducted a pre-feasibility study to define the demand and the potential for vocational training and applied research on water and sanitation in the rural area of Sofala Province:
-
The demand according to the different aspects (water quality and quantity control, asset management, planning, construction, operation, maintenance) was analyzed.
- Potential partners for implementation, technical assistance and funding of vocational training were interviewed and further involved in the study.
- The legal situation was assessed.
- Possible ways forward and alternatives for the establishment of a centre for vocational training and applied research on water and sanitation in the Sofala Province were elaborated.
- Recommendations for the establishment of such a centre were formulated.
