Support
to the Decentralisation of the Water Supply and Sanitation Sector
The
Austrian funded programme for water and decentralisation in Cape Verde supports
the water sector on all levels - national, district and local. Together with all
relevant actors from DGASP, INGRH and local stakeholders, a 3-year programme (2005
- 2008) has been developed. In the frame of this programme a project was started
for improving the municipal water supply and sanitation services in the 5 district
capitals of the island Santiago, focusing on capacity building for the municipalities
of Santa Catarina, São Domingos, S. Miguel, Tarrafal and Santa Cruz. This capacity
building project was based on the public sector reform program elaborated in 1994,
and will continue with emphasis on infrastructure rehabilitation, tariff policy
development and networking of the municipal water works. |
